TREKKING IN SINGALILA RANGE

This trekking route is in the eastern Indian Himalayas in the north-west corner of the state of West Bengal. The only point in India from where Mt.Everest is visible is on this trekking route. 
The route to Sandakphu passes through the Singalila National Park situated at an altitude between 6,990 ft to 11,930 ft. This trekking route offers magnificient views of some of the worlds highest mountain peaks including the Kanchenjunga, Mount Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse.
But  the panorama is  completely dominated by the Kanchenjunga and Everest group. The space between the two  is occupied by snowy ranges. Three sisters which cluster together, if you look towards east beyond Kanchenjunga you  will see Narsing and then the Dongkya and the Chola ranges of the Tibetan frontier with Chumalhari lifting up to its heads in the rear.The whole snowy range of Bhutan, Sikkim and Nepal about 320 kms in length; it is visible. 
Kanchenjunga-correctly spelt as Khangchedzonga is the third highest mountain in the world means “Five Treasures of the Great Snow” and is the guardian deity of Sikkimese.From the  mid of April till the  first week of  June this region blushes with rhododendron bloom and lovely primula and other alpine flower spread like a beautiful carpet. 
A variety of Alpnine flowers can be seen all along the route during the months of April and May. A variety of Himalayan Pheasants including some rare ones can be seen on this route. Notable wildlife species that can be seen in this jungle are the red panda,the Himalayan bear,and several species of deer.
This trekking route is open throughout the year except during the monsoon season (15th June to 15th September).
